OOC: Drat. I was hoping Murkrow would get to slaughter your bug xD Damn RNG!

A purple and yellow reptile appeared in Rhett's place, though sadly he lacked any top hat and monocle, only to find a black bird flailing on the ground. A free meal, perhaps?

In its struggle, Murkrow managed to get up to the Thunderma's face and jab him with its beak with 'Astonishing' power, stunning Siaz completely.

Err, well the Murkrow began by attempting a critical wing attack, but had to settle for regular damage against the imposing opponent. Siaz, on the other hand, replied with a cut the seemed to just find the right spot, hitting the Murkrow just hard enough to leave the black bird cross-eyed.

"Huh... that was a little too easy."

Luthire frowned. He was planning on trying to catch it again. Oh well... some things were just not meant to be...

He now had no idea where Celinda had gone off to, though he was pretty sure he knew where he was. This area was very close to where he fought Murkrow the first time, which was which marked his stopping point his first time here. The unidentified tail had long gone missing too. There was no hope in finding out what it was. With that taken care of, there wasn't much left to do here.

Luthire went onward. There was little point in going back the way he came, now that he had collected his badge from Veserecto. For the first time in an hour or two of hiking, the landscape began to flatten out. There was a small town up ahead - a good place to wait for his rival.

He wasn't in the mood to search for more wild Pokemon. He didn't need more than six anyway. Why was he even looking for more? He gave up thinking about it, and headed straight for Etaoin.

From Etaoin City

Wimp. Pure wimp.

Luthire wasn't taking his loss very well. He hated losing, and he despised confronting people after a loss. Thankfully, it didn't happen very often, but no matter how well he prepared himself for a fight, he knew there were some battles he couldn't win.

There was something else that bothered Luthire though. Something about Celinda bothered the hell out of him. She had been acting too calm, almost bubbly even. It was sandpaper on his brain, and he couldn't bear to think about it. She was up to something, if only Luthire could guess at what...

Oh yeah, just where the hell was he? As a matter of fact, he had no clue. The land was dry and flat, almost barren, and hot as hell, but more importantly, he did not recognize the area. He had run quite far - he wasn't even sure which direction he had come from.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luthire quickly decided that this was an opportune place to break. His legs felt like they were about to snap under his weight, so he sat down on the dirt field. He turned to his backpack. His money pouch was still unzipped from his fiasco with Celinda. All of his items seemed intact, so he turned to his team, releasing them one by one to check on their status.

[sp=thunderma]

Oh, Siaz... Luthire had a soft spot for Siaz, and he didn't even know why. It must've been his sleazy grin - it kinda reminded him of his own smirk. For once, he didn't look all that grumpy... Perhaps because Alphonse wasn't around? Or maybe it was the hot sun beating down on them. Luthire offered his reptilian buddy some water, but the lizard just shook his head and stretched out to get some vitamin D. Luthire let him be for the time being.

[sp=sandile]

Luthire had nearly forgotten about Alphonse's injury. He was still wearing that silly makeshift eye-patch, even though the injury was mild and fully healed. But when Luthire brought his hand over to the croc, he began to hiss, and showed off his piercing teeth. Luthire didn't want to get bitten again, not out here anyway. The trust would come eventually... or so he hoped...

[sp=skrelp]

Craid. Luthire still wasn't sure how he felt about him. He didn't do much other than take up space, but he wasn't a terrible fighter either. Craid was an oddball, and out of his entire team, he seemed to hate the heat the most. Luthire quickly returned him to his Pokeball, where he wouldn't fry up as badly.

[sp=virlich]

Iulia was sleeping. Luthire quickly returned her to her ball. She had worked hard, and Luthire appreciated that. As far as he was concerned, she deserved as much of a rest as she could get. There was no point in waking her up.

Luthire: "UHHHH... SHIT!"

Aly's Pokeball lay in Luthire's hands, but Alys was nowhere to be seen. Luthire quickly recalled what had happened - after Alys had fainted, he had neglected to return her. In the hasty getaway, she must had been left behind. Poor thing... Where could she be now?

Also mysteriously gone was Rhett. Luthire did not remember leaving him behind. Where did he vanish too? Luthire didn't have any answers... His breathing grew heavy. He quickly returned the rest of his team to their balls.

Luthire: "DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT. This is low... even for me. Dammit... dammit..."

His two first Pokemon. Gone. How could he have let this happen, he thought to himself as he slammed his fists into the earth. For a great while, he lay face-first in the dirt, struggling to decide whether to sob or man it up. There was nothing he wanted more than to get his team back - they could be hurt, and he already missed them.

Luthire: "Rhett... Alys... grmmm..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luthire: "HMPH?!"

It was now dark. Luthire had dozed off, eyes wet, face still in the dirt. His stomach growled loudly - he still hadn't succeeded in getting any food, and the day was nearly over. He could hear something moving around him. A tail poked out of a patch of tall grass nearby.

The Tail

It looked like the same tail from Route 616. Luthire had wanted to see who it belonged to, but it slipped away during a trainer battle. But he had a chance now. Maybe it could help him locate his friends? Or maybe it had food? Maybe it was food!? Whatever it was, it wasn't getting away this time. Luthire pounced... weakly though, he didn't have much strength.

[sp=seviper]

Luthire jumped back. The Pokemon was much larger than he had thought it would be. Yet, it seemed fairly young, like he had been hatched yesterday. It apparently didn't know fear, and stared at Luthire with its shiny red eyes.

"Psssssssth"

There was something else moving about in the grass. The snake Pokemon hissed once more and cleared away from the sound.

The rustling continued, until something poked out of the grass. Something yellow and curved...

'Krow?'

A black face with a beak popped out, followed by the rest of its body. It was a Murkrow, who had come out tonight in search of some vittles, and if she were lucky, something shiny to add to her nest. She hopped around, scratching at the ground as she ignored Luthire's presence. Not being food, she couldn't care less about the human.

'Mu-ku-ru?'

She suddenly perked up, sensing something nearby. The Murkrow scanned the area, until she found what was bothering her; A pair of sharp red eyes and a low hiss. Her instincts kicked in, knowing what the species was and what one of their favorite meals happened to be on this route. Murkrow lowered her head, cawwing loudly with her wings spread. Suddenly her eyes turned to you.

Did this human bring that monster here? How dare it! She was now screeching at Luthire as well, trying her hardest to chase the two away, not wanting either anywhere near this place!

An Angry BirdTM appeared!

Not being food, Luthire couldn't care less about the Murkrow. But the serpent, on the other hand, was agitated by its presence. He hissed loudly, as if to warn the black crow to back off.

It looked as though this Murkrow was similarly agitated. If these two were to fight, they'd likely kill eachother. Luthire would have to stop it.

"Alphonse, let's take this Murkrow out."

The 'krow, instead of taking to the air like any smart bird, instead began to run toward the intruder. A dark hue covered her beak as she charged, only to find herself cut off by a sandy crocodile. Believing the two reptiles to be in cahoots, Murkrow began to peck at Alphonse with the ghostly attack that was meant for Seviper...

Alphonse was not amused by this, though the pathetic damage was slightly humorous. His nails took a metallic sheen as he swiped at the crow, leaving four gashes under Mukrow's dark plumage.

Seeing the Seviper sit at your feet as he watched the on-going battle, Murkrow's feathers ruffled up, making her seem larger than before. This human really must be this monster's owner! The crow looked over at Luthire, shooting an icy glare that pretty much screamed 'You're next!'...

Returning to the match at hand - ... talon? Yeah. - Murkrow jabbed at Alphonse's face with her powerful beak, the blow hitting surprisingly hard compared to her last attack! Alphonse returned the favor by... glowering at the Murkrow, her tough facade dropping a bit from the stare.

No matter how much this Sandile glared at her, Murkrow was not about to give in. This human had brought a monster into her home! The chicks were in danger, and Murkrow was determined to protect them. She swooped down once more and drove her sharp beak into Alphonse's back, causing the little crocodile to squeak in pain. In the process, however, she passed too close to Alphonse's claws, and suffered a painful rake across her left wing.

"Keep going, Alphonse! Cut!"

Though Murkow was still on a loose temper, her adversary sat unprovoked by her display of aggression. It wasn't his battle anymore, and he was as calm as could be. He watched as Alphonse slashed at the crow repeatedly, as though he had not been involved in the first place.

Murkrow pecked at Alphonse's face, the powerful poking pounding the poor pokemon to the... ground. Ran out of P words...

Barely standing, Alphonse struggled to raise a claw and swipe at the crow, the cutting attack managing to drop the ebony bird.

Defeated, Murkrow stood and dusted herself off, squawking loudly as she scampered back home, to weak to even fly anymore.

The snake was returning to its aggressive front. It was still eyeing the Murkrow as it tried to flee the field. His jaws snapped open, and he launched at the defenseless bird.

*fling*

Luthire flew a spare Pokeball, connecting the assailant at the tail and sending him into the ball. Murkrow scurried away, with all of her feathers intact. A soft click could be heard as the ball dropped into the grass below.

???: "Good thinking... A second later, and that Murkrow would've..."

Luthire spun to his hind side. No one was there.

???: "Up here."

There was a large shadow hovering in the sky, as it drew closer to the ground, Luthire could make out the presence of a man, and a bird. The man had a stern look on his face, though he didn't appear to be troubled or agitated. The bird had strange markings all over its body, and its eyes felt soulless as they stared back at Luthire.

[sp=nahualatu]

???: "That Seviper is a strange one. I've been watching it for quite some time. Be careful - even though you've captured him, he's no ally."

Luthire: "Huh? What do you mean? Also... who the hell are you?"

???: "Ah, yes. Sorry... You can call me Norlai."

Luthire: "Whatever.. I'm Luthire. Now... what do you want from me?"

Norlai: "Hmph! I don't like your tone very much!"

The enigmatic Norlai took a step back from Luthire. Then redirected his gaze to Alphonse. Alphonse was staring at the patch of grass, and was unusually tense.

Norlai: "You seem to have dissonance within your own team. Tell me, what do you plan to do about it?"

Dissonance? Luthire reminisced to the battle with Celinda in Etaoin, the gym match in Versorecto, the fiasco with Neptune at Krtsuo shore... Alys had been extremely aggressive during the fight with Leroy, a trait that Luthire hadn't noticed beforehand. The gym battle had been a train-wreck for Alphonse, Siaz, Rhett and Craid. Iulia may have triumphed over Lofty and Darty, but her hubris was shattered in the match with Pepper. With Alys and Rhett missing, his team was both literally and emotionally in pieces... He smiled weakly at the realization.

Luthire walked up to the patch of grass and reached down to pick up the ball concealed within. He could feel the warmth of the Seviper within. Alphonse glared at Luthire as he slipped the ball into his bag. There was no turning back now.

Norlai: "So, that's your choice? You have your work cut out for you, that's for sure. What are you going to do now?"

Luthire: "Hmm... I'm not sure."

Luthire sat down, pondering the question for a moment.

Luthire: "I can't fix my team... without Rhett and Alys. I need to get them back.."

He took out Aly's empty ball, showing it to the man. There were no words that needed conveying.

Norlai: "Sure, I get it. One last question... who's that behind you?"

OOC: I haven't kept track of your adventure, but I hope this makes some sense.

Another stranger jumped down from a cliff, all his attention on Luthire as if the other man did not exist. His face was masked, so it was hard to identify him, even if Luthire would have seen him before. At once he called out a Pokemon, a blue-white bird similar to the one that had been Luthire's first Pokemon. The creature cried loudly and seemed ready to attack.

The man was dressed in dark clothes, and looked almost like an assassin. His Pokemon looked ready to kill, so it appeared that Luthire would have no other choice but to send his own monsters into battle, if he wished to survive. One could ask oneself, what would have happened if Norlai had not warned him?

"Alys!! Wait... nope."

Luthire had no idea who this person might be, why he was here, or what he wanted. But there was no time to think - the enemy Pandive was closing in!

[sp=skrelp]

At once, as smoky veil enshrouded the dry plains. Luthire crouched low to the ground, listening for footsteps while keeping a sharp eye on the swaying of the black fog. Every muscle in his body ached, and he could almost feel the life draining out of his body, but he could only wait. Even Craid looked far more tense than usual, his two red eyes locked onto the shadowy silhouettes in front of him.

The pandive was quick to attack, slashing out with her claws as the smoke rose. She struck Craid twice before the smoke reached her eyes, blocking her vision. Soon, both the bird and her Trainer had disappeared into black smoke, and it would be hard for any of the Trainers to keep track of their Pokemon and how well they fared.

This Pandive was faster than expected, plunging through the smoky cloud like a missile. Craid held his ground, calling upon the surrounding shadows to help consume the bird assailant. The black smoke was a nuisance, but the pandive would have to make the best of this situation. She could still hear her Trainer calling out commands, so she was not as isolated as she might look. To weaken the other water-type with an intimidating glare would be hard in this thick smoke, but boosting oneself would not be a challenge. Pandive was told to strengthen her fighting spirit, and as she did so, her claws seemed to sharpen a bit. Her attacks could be deadly now, if her opponent was unfortunate.

Craid had no problems orienting in the smoke, finding his enemy with a feint attack. He struck the bird, who shrieked angrily at being taken for a fool. She was not lost in the black mist; she had only been boosting her powers, whatever her opponent might believe.

Before she could hear another command from her Trainer, the pandive was starting to feel weaker. Her breathing was heavier, but she could not understand how a single feint attack could have brought this kind of damage to her body. Her Trainer could not see what was happening, and probably thought her all right, which she would have been, under normal circumstances.
