Sprite BBCode
#1
Pokémon Turquoise uses a special BBCode to display the small images ("sprites" or "pseudosprites") used in the RP and elsewhere on the board:

[sp=imagename]

This BBCode is used instead of the more traditional :imagename: colon syntax for a variety of reasons, primarily because it's ultimately easier for the staff to add to and update these images as more are needed down the road. We realize that many of you are still used to the colon syntax, so we made sure the new BBCode was as simple as possible and every bit as easy to use.

To get a specific image to appear in your post, do the following:

Pokémon

Use the name of the desired pokémon in lower case (see the pokédex for the names of the New Logoran pokémon if you're unfamiliar with them). Most names with punctuation in them, like dashes, apostrophes or periods, should work with or without that punctuation, although they can't have spaces (so "mrmime" or "mr.mime" but not "mr. mime"). They cannot contain special characters, either (so "flabebe" not "flabébé"). So

[sp=acafia] [sp=farfetch'd] [sp=dartizel-r]

produces

[sp=acafia] [sp=farfetch'd] [sp=dartizel-r]

Shiny Pokémon

Use the pokémon's name immediately followed by the word "shiny". So

[sp=acafiashiny] [sp=farfetch'dshiny] [sp=dartizel-rshiny]

produces

[sp=acafiashiny] [sp=farfetch'dshiny] [sp=dartizel-rshiny]

Pokémon with Form Differences

Use the name of the pokémon immediately followed by either the name or abbreviation of its form (e.g., "cherrimsunny", "cherrims" and "cherrim-s" will all return the same image). So

[sp=cherrimsunny] [sp=unownf]

produces

[sp=cherrimsunny] [sp=unownf]

If no form is specified and only the name is used, e.g. just "cherrim" or "unown", the default form (e.g. overcast cherrim) will appear. Note that exclamation points (!) and question marks (?) do not work in image filenames, so the ! and ? unown are instead displayed with "em" or "qm" (e.g., unownem or unown-qm).

Pokémon with Gender Differences

Use the name of the pokémon immediately followed by the first letter of the desired gender. So

[sp=josuchem] [sp=josuchef]

produces

[sp=josuchem] [sp=josuchef]

If no gender is specified and only the name is used, e.g. just "josuche", a given default version will appear (in josuche's case, the male). Note that josuche is currently the only pokémon with an implemented gender difference; most gender differences, for example pachirisu's, are too subtle to bother with separate images for. As more pokémon with more drastic gender differences (e.g. hippopotas or jellicent) are added, however, there will be separate images for each.

Shiny Pokémon with Form/Gender Differences, Etc.

Use the name of the pokémon immediately followed by first the form/gender abbreviation and then the word "shiny", in that order. So

[sp=cherrimsunnyshiny] [sp=josuchefshiny]

produces

[sp=cherrimsunnyshiny] [sp=josuchefshiny]

Again, if no form/gender difference is specified and only the name is used, a default image will still appear.

Gender Icons

Use either the first letter of the desired gender or the whole word; for genderless pokémon, use "na". So

[sp=male] [sp=f] [sp=na]

produces

[sp=male] [sp=f] [sp=na]

Type Icons

Use the name of the type. So

[sp=dark] [sp=flying]

produces

[sp=dark] [sp=flying]

Items

Use the name of the item, with no spaces or other punctuation between the words. So

[sp=pokeball] [sp=absorbbulb] [sp=crestfossil]

produces

[sp=pokeball] [sp=absorbbulb] [sp=crestfossil]

At this time we should have a sprite for all canon items as of Black and White, as well as all custom items currently implemented in the RPG. (If you think any important ones are missing, let me know and I'll try to track 'em down.) This currently does not include any new items introduced in Black 2 and White 2.

At this time the priority is to implement pokémon and fakemon that are included in the RPG; there is no guarantee that others will be usable with this BBCode. The remaining canon pokémon and any new fakemon that are added will be uploaded as needed. If you need to display an image for a pokémon that is not yet uploaded, please use [img] tags and the URL to a sprite/image that it's okay to hotlink to.
