NX / Nintendo Switch Thread
#1

Finally, some info on the NX... or I guess now we can abbreviate it as the NS. The Nintendo Switch appears to be strongly based on the gamepad foundation set forth by the Wii U, but entirely changed (hopefully for the better).

Honestly, I'm super excited for this! Coming from the Wii U, I was pretty disappointed in the lack of games, and the Wii U pad as a controller quickly lost its charm for me. However, I really enjoyed the fact that for some games (Smash Bros for instance), you could play on the gamepad without the use of a TV. At home with family, it can be pretty hard to secure a TV to play on, but with the gamepad you can simply put on headphones and play without the TV.

It seems like the Switch is moving away from using the gamepad as a specialized controller, and instead opting to make it into a portable console. For me, that sounds incredible because I was never really interested in using the pad as a controller in the first place. I'd rather be able to walk away from the console and play with a controller whenever I have the time.

Really interested in seeing where this goes. My first impression is that Nintendo's taking a step in the right direction with the Switch, and I have pretty high expectations for this console. My main hopes are that we see continued and more universal GC controller compatibility, either Smash Wii U compatibility or a port, and a strong library of games. Most excited to play multiplayer games on the go with friends.

Bumping this~

So the Switch has been out now (for a good while), and I really want one as well. >.<

I've been wanting to play Zelda's Breath of the Wild since it came out, and Mario Odyssey looks pretty interesting as well. Definitely would want the new Fire Emblem Warriors, although I'm still not sure I feel about the play-style (this can be a topic of its own, though). Probably gonna wait for a few other games that look interesting to come out before I invest in one of these bad boys though. Definitely trying to monitor my spending right now, and I don't see the Switch as being worth the money with the game selection yet. I might end up waiting to get one when it is released with the next Pokémon generation. Nintendo is working on a Pokémon core RPG for the switch to my understanding, so I imagine I'd probably get the Switch once that gets closer to being released.

Anyone here have a Switch? If so, what games have you played for it, and what have you particularly liked/disliked about the console?

To update on my own thoughts, my tune has entirely changed since posting this.

I was really excited for the Switch, but I have practically no reason to buy one at this point. Most Nintendo games I care about are still being made for the 3DS. Far more games I want are coming out for PS4 now, which makes that a priority over the Switch. Nintendo has always been, in my opinion, rather poor when it comes to the JRPG scene compared to PlayStation, and since that's mostly what I'm interested in nowadays there really isn't a point to getting a Switch. There are a few titles that have piqued my interest - the new Xenoblade, the new SMT game, probably others - but nothing that has really made me think to myself, "I have to buy this console!!".

The only game franchises from Nintendo that could get that response out of me at this point are Smash Bros, and the main storyline games of Metroid (in other words, I don't give a damn about the new Prime game). I initially was very interested in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but after looking at the new art style and realizing that I'm only maybe 70% complete with the original Wii game and haven't even scratched the surface with the new Wii U game... I just don't think I'll be able to get into it.

Aside from game library, I really love the concept of the Switch and still believe it's a great console. But at least until I have a stable income I have to pass on it.
